Ease Privacy Policy

Applies to: The Ease mobile application (the “App”) and our website (the “Site”)
This Privacy Policy explains how R^2 LABS (“Ease,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the App or Site.
Important note: Ease is a substance recovery and harm-reduction app. Some of the information you choose to provide (such as substances you track and usage/urge logs) may be considered sensitive.
1) Who We Are

2) Information We Collect
We collect information in three main ways:
- You provide it to us directly
- We collect it automatically when you use the App/Site
- We receive it from third parties when you use third-party sign-in or purchases
A. Information you provide
Account and profile information
- Email address (required)
- First name and last name (optional)
- Timezone (for local time display and notifications)
Substance tracking and recovery-related information (sensitive)
- Substances you track (e.g., alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, caffeine)
- Baseline usage quantities and plan inputs
- Weekly spending on substances (for savings calculations)
- Reduction plans and targets
- Usage logs (“hits”) including quantity and timestamps
- Craving/urge logs including intensity ratings (1–5) and timestamps
- Context tags associated with hits/urges (to identify triggers/patterns)
- Daily check-in status and streak-related data
Communications
- Information you provide when contacting support (e.g., messages and any attachments you choose to send)
B. Information we collect automatically
Device and technical information
- Device type/model, operating system, app version
- App performance and diagnostic data (e.g., crash logs)
- IP address and approximate location inferred from IP (generally city/region level)
- Security and session information (e.g., login attempts, token metadata)
Usage and engagement metadata
- Onboarding progress (steps completed)
- Last active timestamp
- Notification preferences and opt-in status
- Notification send history (to prevent spam and respect limits)
C. Information from third parties
If you sign in or authenticate via third parties, we receive information such as:
- Apple Sign-In: Apple provider identifier; email address if you choose to share it
- Google Sign-In: Google provider identifier and email address
If you purchase subscriptions through Apple in-app purchases, we receive purchase/subscription status information (often via our subscription provider), but we do not receive your full payment card details.
3) How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
Provide and operate the App
- Create and manage your account
- Enable substance tracking, plans, logging, check-ins, progress metrics, and dashboards
- Calculate savings and milestones based on your inputs
Personalize your experience
- Show progress insights, trends, and motivational prompts
- Display timezone-correct dates and reminders
Send notifications and service messages
- Push notifications you opt into (e.g., reminders, plan milestones, celebrations)
- Transactional emails (e.g., verification, password reset)
Improve and secure the App
- Debugging, error monitoring, and performance optimization
- Prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access
- Enforce our Terms of Service
AI-powered motivational features
- Generate motivational quotes and microcopy using an AI provider
- We aim to avoid sending direct identifiers (like your email) in AI prompts, and use limited context needed to produce the content
4) How We Share Information
We share information only as necessary to run the App, comply with law, or protect safety and security.
A. Service providers (processors)
We use third-party providers to help us operate the App. These providers may process information on our behalf under contractual obligations.
Examples include:
- Push notifications: OneSignal (device tokens, notification content, user/app identifiers)
- Subscriptions: RevenueCat (purchase/subscription status, user/app identifiers)
- Authentication: Apple and Google (sign-in)
- AI content generation: Groq (limited context prompts used to generate motivational content)
- Email delivery: SendGrid (email address and email content for transactional emails)
- Error monitoring: Sentry (diagnostic and crash data; may include IP address and device metadata)
- Infrastructure hosting: Google Cloud Platform (app hosting and data storage)
B. Legal, safety, and enforcement
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:
- comply with law, regulation, legal process, or government request
- protect the rights, property, and safety of Ease, our users, or others
- investigate and help prevent fraud, security issues, or abuse
C. Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction (subject to this policy and applicable law).
D. “Sale” or cross-context advertising
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5) Push Notifications and Your Choices
Push notifications are opt-in. If you enable notifications, we will send notifications based on your settings and timezone. You can disable notifications anytime through your device settings and/or in-app preferences (where available).
6) Cookies and Similar Technologies (Site)
Our Site may use cookies or similar technologies for essential functionality and to understand Site performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings. (Note: disabling some cookies may affect Site functionality.)
7) Data Retention
We keep information for as long as necessary to provide the App and for legitimate business and legal purposes.

Account deletion
If you request account deletion, we will process deletion and permanently delete your personal data within 30 days of your request (subject to limited exceptions required by law or for security purposes). During this period, your account may be placed into a “soft delete” state while deletion completes.
8) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, such as:
- encryption in transit (HTTPS)
- password hashing
- access controls and least-privilege practices
- monitoring and protections against unauthorized access
No system is 100% secure. Please use a strong password and keep your login credentials confidential.
9) Your Rights and Controls
In-app controls (where available)
You can generally:
- view your progress and history
- edit or delete individual logs
- update profile information
- manage notifications (device settings and/or in-app)
- request account deletion
Access, correction, deletion
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access the personal information we hold about you
- correct inaccurate information
- delete your information
- receive a copy of your information (data portability), where applicable
- object to or restrict certain processing, where applicable

10) Additional Disclosures for California Residents
If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act / California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, delete, and correct certain personal information.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

11) Additional Disclosures for EEA/UK Users
If you are in the EEA or UK, Ease generally acts as a “controller” for personal information we process to provide the App. Our legal bases for processing may include:
- Performance of a contract (providing the App you request)
- Legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, improving the App)
- Consent (where required, such as certain notifications)
You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
12) International Data Transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than where you live (for example, where our service providers operate). When required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
13) Children’s Privacy
Ease is intended for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided personal information, contact us at support@tryease.app so we can take appropriate action.
14) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice (for example, within the App or on the Site) and update the “Effective date” above.
